Clearing up misconceptions about Islam, being good neighbors to Muslims.
Steve Slocum is a peace activist and the author of highly acclaimed, Why Do They Hate Us? Making Peace with the Muslim World, which addresses common misconceptions about Islam about issues such as Sharia law, jihad against infidels, women in Islam and wearing the hijab, and the true cause for the rise in Islamic terror.
Slocum, a former missionary in Kazakhstan, is the founder of Salaam, a nonprofit that works to bring Muslims and non-Muslims together in friendship. Slocum has appeared on KTLA and CBS8 San Diego morning news shows, and has been featured in numerous radio and newspaper stories. He is currently on a North America Countering Islamophobia tour, sharing his peacemaking message of friendship in churches and mosques, bookstores and libraries, and other community venues.
After 9/11, the West became fearful of Muslims and acts of terror were prominent in the news cycles. Politicians capitalized, and have effectively employed Islamophobia as a political tool. In Why Do They Hate Us?, author Steve Slocum takes the spotlight off the extremists and instead exposes the heart of the everyday Muslim.
